Earlier today the government publicly released their response to the Energy Company Obligation Scheme 4 (ECO4).
Why does it matter?
This scheme is more relevant than ever right now, since we’re seeing energy prices sky-rocketing due to world events. ECO4 will help households to battle these rising costs, heating their homes in a more efficient, cost-effective manner – ultimately helping both consumers as individuals and the country as a whole. At the same time the scheme also plays a vital role in the government’s push towards achieving wider goals, such as eradicating fuel poverty and achieving net-zero commitments.
What are the main policies?
ECO4’s main policies include:
- Focus on low-income and vulnerable or fuel poor homes in the D-G band
- Implement a solid wall target of 90,000 solid wall measures over the 4-year scheme
- Protect low-income families unable to heat their homes cost effectively
- Introduce score uplifts of 35% in off-gas rural areas to incentivise delivery in areas that may be harder to reach

This is yet another nationwide development that is changing the energy efficiency scene in the UK. It is a constantly changing industry and this is definitely something to be aware of as the scheme moves forward, and improvements are implemented in hundreds of thousands of homes.
