On the 25th of January, the government released a summary of the Local Authority Delivery (LAD) and Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) Statistics.

There has been a lot of buzz around both the Local Authority Delivery and the Home Upgrade Grant schemes in the past few years. The government has poured hundreds of millions of pounds into these projects collectively. Domestic Energy Assessors, Retrofit professionals and energy professionals as a whole are all keen to see what impact these projects are having.

The data of the recent release is based on information submitted by mid-December 2023. Thus, it contains all the grades installed up to the end of November 2023.

Local Authority Delivery and Home Upgrade Grant Statistics

Number of Measures Installed

Number of Households Upgraded

Average EPC Improvement Margin

Number of Houses Improved to an EPC C or Higher

This is just a small snapshot of the information available. You can find out more by reading the full report

* HUG1 Houses tended to have a lower starting point, which is why a lower percentage of their projects reached EPC Grade C.

Once again, the nation is focusing on energy in our homes. The energy efficiency of our domestic houses is intrinsically tied to all of the country’s ambitious energy goals. Promises to reduce emissions, reach net zero, and become greener as a nation all rely on how we use our energy at home. Thus, projects such as these are vitally important – and so are the people involved in carrying them out.

Each project calls for a variety of specialised skills. The process involves at least a Domestic Energy Assessor, a Retrofit Assessor, a Retrofit Coordinator and potentially several other qualified individuals. These are the people carrying the UK’s sustainable future on their shoulders.

There’s never been a better time to get involved. Energy Trust has successfully secured funding through the Home Decarbonisation Skills Training Competition — a government funding programme aimed at training individuals in the energy efficiency and retrofit industry. This means that you can receive a substantial discount on many of our qualifications over the next few months.
