Description

The ABBE Level 3 Certificate for Retrofit Assessors qualification has been developed to enable those working in the construction and built environment sector to take a qualification which covers the PAS 2035 Retrofit Assessor role. The qualification will meet regulatory requirements and will use the Accreditation Schemes to produce the reports.

This course is designed to give you the skills and knowledge to carry out PAS 2035-compliant retrofit assessments, which provide the foundation for all retrofit projects. You’ll collect and analyse property data, assess building condition and occupancy, and prepare reports that Retrofit Coordinators and Retrofit Designers use to plan effective, safe retrofit measures.

With demand for qualified Retrofit Assessors rapidly growing, this is the perfect time to gain a nationally recognised qualification and build your career in the retrofit sector.

  • One-year access – you’ll have up to 12 months to complete the course. However, if you are utilising the WHSP funding, then you will have four weeks to complete the course.
  • Tutor support – expert trainers are on hand to guide you through your learning journey.

This format makes it easy to fit your study around work, family, and other commitments.

Prerequisites

To enrol on this course, you must already be a qualified Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA), or be working towards your DEA qualification (evidence will be required). This is a requirement because the Retrofit Assessor role builds on the core knowledge and skills of energy assessment, particularly the use of RdSAP data and property surveying.

If you’re not yet a DEA, you can complete both qualifications together through our DEA + Retrofit Assessor combined training package.

Whats Included?

When you enrol, you’ll get access to a complete learning package designed to give you practical skills and confidence:

  • A virtual property environment where you can practise data collection and assessment techniques.
  • Example retrofit documentation so you can see exactly how reports are structured in real projects.
  • Access to guidance, resources, and case studies covering condition surveys, ventilation assessments, occupancy analysis, and more.
  • Ongoing tutor support to help you with questions and feedback as you progress.
  • Final assessment and certification upon successful completion.

You will gain vital skills required to take on any project under PAS 2035, including:

  • Full competence in surveying buildings, conducting RdSAP data collection, detailed floor planning, occupancy and ventilation assessments, and condition surveys.
  • Eligibility to accredit with ecmk and TrustMark, enabling entry into the TrustMark Data Warehouse.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long will it take me to complete the course?

A: The course is self-paced. Some learners complete it in just a few weeks, while others take several months. For full-paying students, you have up to 12 months from enrolment. However, if you are utilising WHSP funding, then you will have four weeks to complete the course learning and assessment.

Q: Is this course recognised by TrustMark?

A: Yes. This ABBE qualification allows you to apply for accreditation (e.g., with ecmk) and register your Retrofit Assessments on the TrustMark Data Warehouse.

Q: Do I need to attend in person?

A: No. The course is delivered fully online and at your own pace (within the above timeframes), so you can study from anywhere with internet access.

Q: Can I complete this without being a DEA?

A: No, you won't be able to join an accreditation scheme until you’ve got both your DEA and RA qualifications. Energy Trust will require students to provide evidence of their DEA certificate or proof that they are working towards it. If you don’t yet have it, consider our combined DEA + Retrofit Assessor package instead.

Q: How much does the course cost?

A: The standalone course is £690 + VAT, which includes all resources, tutor support, and your final certification. However, the funded version of this course is only 40% of this total cost.

Q: Do I need an iPad to complete the course?

A: No, all the learning materials and assignments will be completed through our learning portal. It is not a requirement to use the Retrofit Assessor app during the course; however, there will be videos to show you how to use the app and what is required when you are qualified.

Q: Do I need anything else?

Although not compulsory, it is highly recommended that students download their own free copy of PAS 2035:2023 from this link.
