The Government has promised that around 130,000 low-income households could see bills reduced as their homes receive energy efficient upgrades funded by the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund and Home Upgrade Grant schemes.
The grant will aim to reduce homeowner’s bills by £400-£700 a year thanks to the effect of energy-efficiency upgrades in their homes. The basic principle is as such; if the house is energy-efficient, it will use less energy, therefore it will cost less to run.
The government are offering one-time payment to fund energy upgrades, and then the upgrades will continue to bring down the energy costs of the home forever.
Richard Elton, Managing Director comments: “Many people are feeling anxious and it is positive that the government has stepped in. They are addressing issues swiftly and decisively with a number of different energy-related grants and schemes. Their newest ‘Help to Heat’ funding is designed to install lasting, effective energy-saving upgrades into people’s homes. It will increase the amount of work in the retrofit industry and we will see an increase in a need for retrofit assessors and coordinators.”
The cheapest form of energy is the energy we do not use. Our Help to Heat schemes are already bringing real benefits to tens of thousands of low-income households across the country by improving the energy performance of their homes and saving them hundreds of pounds on their bills.

What upgrades are available under the Help to Heat schemes?
There are variety of measures available, such as:
- External Wall Insulation
- Loft Insulation
- Energy Efficient Doors & Windows
- Heat Pumps
- Solar Panels
Some of these upgrades will be used in conjunction with each other. This ‘whole house’ method is far more effective and leads to bigger savings.
How do homes access home upgrade funding?
Local authorities and housing providers will be able to submit bids from early next year. The measures will be carried out until March 2025.
