Funded Training with the Warm Homes Skills Programme

 

Energy Trust is proud to deliver partially funded and subsidised training courses through the Government’s Warm Homes Skills Programme – with 60% of the course fees funded. Backed by almost £1 million in secured grant support, this is a unique chance to gain in-demand skills in the retrofit and energy efficiency at a fraction of the usual cost.

Our courses cover the full journey, from entry-level introductions through to advanced Level 5 Retrofit Coordination and Non-Domestic Energy Assessment (PAS 2035 & PAS 2038 aligned). All programmes are delivered by experienced, industry-qualified trainers and lead to nationally recognised qualifications.

Level 3 Certificate in Domestic Energy Assessment & Level 3 Certificate for Retrofit Assessors (combined package for new entrants) 

This combined package of both the ABBE Level 3 Certificate in Domestic Energy Assessment and ABBE Level 3 Certificate for Retrofit Assessors teaches students how to survey buildings and produce accurate Energy Performance Certificates for domestic dwellings using RdSAP 10. In conjunction, students will also learn the skills required to become a Trustmark-approved Retrofit Assessor in compliance with PAS2035. It ensures that you understand the comprehensive retrofit process, including energy assessments, condition surveys, occupancy surveys, ventilation assessments and significance surveys.

Level 3 Certificate for Retrofit Assessors (for existing DEAs)

The ABBE Level 3 Certificate for Retrofit Assessors equips individuals with the expertise to carry out a whole dwelling assessment in compliance with PAS2035. This course provides training on the retrofit process, including RdSAP 10 assessments, condition surveys, occupancy surveys, ventilation assessments and significance surveys. This training builds on the existing skillset of qualified Domestic Energy Assessors (DEA).

Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination and Risk Assessment

The Retrofit Coordinator is a mandatory role for all retrofit projects as outlined in PAS2035. Retrofit Coordinators safeguard client and public interests by coordinating projects from start to finish, managing risks, and ensuring successful outcomes. This practical ABBE qualification combines academic learning, real-world case studies and access to industry-leading software, preparing coordinators for their vital role with confidence.

Level 3 Award in Energy Efficiency for Older and Traditional Buildings

The ABBE Level 3 Award in Energy Efficiency Measures for Older and Traditional Buildings qualification has been developed to raise awareness of older, traditional or protected buildings (e.g. buildings usually built prior to 1919). This qualification meets the requirements set out in PAS2035 and PAS2038. It is required for Retrofit Assessors, Designers and Coordinators working on any traditional building project.

Level 3 Award in Introduction to Domestic Retrofit

The ABBE Level 3 Award in Introduction to Domestic Retrofit qualification has been developed to give an overview of aspects of PAS2035 giving the learner the knowledge and understanding of the retrofit process and who is involved. It provides an entry-level understanding of the basics whilst providing a foundation for future career development.

ABBE/City & Guilds

Level 3 & 4 Diploma in Non Domestic Energy Assessment (NDEA)

Learn to produce EPCs for Commercial Buildings. Non-Domestic Energy Assessors are recognised within PAS2038 and play an essential role in retrofitting commercial buildings. This course is delivered over four consecutive days with a live and interactive session where learners can follow along with the tutor and ask questions. The training session is then followed by a requirement to produce a portfolio of three example EPC projects. This qualification combines both Level 3 & Level 4.

Who is eligible for the Warm Homes Skills Programme?

To be eligible, learners must:

  • Be aged 18 or older
  • Reside in England or complete the majority of their work in England
  • Be eligible to receive public funds in the UK
  • Meet any course-specific entry requirements

Both employed, self-employed and unemployed individuals can apply.

When does the funding start?

Funding will be available from 1st September 2025.
