The global call for sustainable practices has ignited a collective effort to reduce carbon emissions and enhance energy efficiency. In the United Kingdom, an essential component of this mission is the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) schemes. These initiatives play a pivotal role in driving energy efficiency improvements across the nation. As we navigate the path to a greener future, a new consultation seeks to usher in mid-scheme amendments to enhance the effectiveness of ECO schemes.

Embracing Progress: ECO4 and the Great British Insulation Scheme

The heart of this consultation revolves around ECO4 and the Great British Insulation Scheme, two integral programs designed to propel the country towards its carbon reduction targets. With both schemes set to run until March 2026, now is the opportune moment to refine their strategies for an even greater impact.

Harnessing Cutting-Edge Insights: The Role of SAP and RdSAP

As technology evolves, so too must our tools for assessing energy efficiency. To ensure that ECO schemes remain at the forefront of innovation, proposals are underway to incorporate the latest versions of the Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) and Reduced Data SAP (RdSAP). These sophisticated evaluation methods offer more accurate insights, empowering stakeholders to make informed decisions that drive substantial energy savings.

A Call for Collaboration: Your Voice Matters

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero is proposing amendments to legislation so that both the ECO4 and the Great British Insulation Scheme use the latest versions of the Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) and Reduced Data SAP (RdSAP) methodologies.

The consultation extends an invitation to a diverse spectrum of stakeholders to share their perspectives on this amendment:

1. Energy Suppliers: The backbone of ECO schemes, energy suppliers play a critical role in driving the adoption of energy-efficient practices.

2. Energy Efficiency Installers: The architects of change, installers shape the physical transformation of properties to enhance energy performance.

3. Other Scheme Participants: Your insights matter. Whether you’re an advocate, enthusiast, or expert, your voice contributes to the collective endeavour.

There are 11 questions in total for participants to answer. Your views can be shared via an online survey which can be found here

As the world marches towards a sustainable tomorrow, the consultation on mid-scheme amendments to ECO4 and the Great British Insulation Scheme marks a significant stride. By embracing cutting-edge assessment methodologies and fostering collaboration, we have the power to shape a future that is not only energy-efficient but also resonates with our shared commitment to a greener planet.
